Are there special drills to train less hip rotation during second serve or hip rotating different on the top spin serve is a consequence of different swing path and You dont tell Your students for example “less rotation”. It happens naturally with time and repetitions?
Yes, I use two main drills which I show in the video below. We worked on isolating pronation for the flat serve (and exaggerating it) in this drill but it can be used for a topspin serve too.
The first drill is to hit 3 balls in a row while you “walk” at around 30-45 degree angle towards the sideline. That kind of forces you to stay sideways but you aim to hit the ball straight towards the net.
I would do 10 – 15 sets usually in one session.
The next drill is when the player is already serving but I stand there on the sideline inside the court to give them orientation on where to face as they finish the service motion.
